January 4th, 2010 is World Hypnotism Day. If you're a practicing hypnotist, this world-wide event is a great way to promote your services. Each of us has a special opportunity to broaden the reach of our profession by educating others and bringing attention to what hypnotism has to offer. Of course we should be doing this throughout the year on a regular basis, but by joining together on one common day we can really generate a buzz.
You may be wondering how to best do this, so I'll share a few ideas that my colleagues and I have used in past years:
1. Give a free presentation at your local library or community center.
2. Host a live internet TV episode on Ustream.tv.
3. Request that your mayor or local town government proclaim January 4th as World Hypnotism Day.
4. Write an opinion piece on the merits of using hypnotism for wellness and submit it to your local newspaper(s).
If you need help gathering info for any of these options, there are great resources at the WHD website. Register yourself at the site, and you'll get access to the members area that has files for your use in promoting what we do. There are letter templates, PowerPoint presentations, and many other great aids. The committee that organizes WHD has done a great job of making it as easy as possible for each of us to go out into our communities and educate others about what we do and how it helps people.
This year is particularly fortuitous in terms of timing because WHD falls on a Monday. New Year's Eve is on a Thursday, and lots of folks will have Friday off. They'll enjoy one last weekend of fun before starting on their New Year's resolutions, and when will those resolutions really begin? You've got it: World Hypnotism Day. Think about what a great opportunity this is to promote what we do!
