I joined the hypnotism profession over five years ago, and I began using social media shortly after that as a way to promote my services. I started out on MySpace, then added a YouTube account, then on to Facebook, and just keep going. Within days of creating my first profile, I started getting friend requests from other hypnotists. Within weeks, I started getting requests from people who were curious about hypnotism. And then what I got shocked me.
It didn't happen often, but every now and then I would get a request from someone who wanted to be dominated hypnotically. Believe me, I was as confused as most of you probably are right now at the idea. Apparently, there is a whole community of people out there who like to use hypnosis to engage in BDSM behavior.
How does it work? I'm not entirely sure, but I guess the basic premise is that one person (the dominant) hypnotizes the other person (the submissive) and then gives them suggestions to do things. The suggestions don't have to be of a sexual nature, because sexual activity isn't necessarily the goal. It's more the relationship of power between the two people, and how that power is given from one person to the other. That's the explanation I read on this blog written by someone who is part of the community.
The whole thing seems strange to me, but it also seems strange to me that in France folks eat french fries with mayonnaise instead of ketchup and that Germans love David Hasselhoff. To each his own, I guess.
